Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Cheddy García, Johnnié Mercedes and Vicente Santos star in the short film “Another Orange”, by Dominican filmmaker & Cinergetik founder Johnattan Báez, a social drama with an unconventional plot addressing the problem of femicides from a psychological perspective.
The film was presented for the first time, on Tuesday November 30th, at Caribbean Cinemas VIP in Downtown Center, in an exclusive exhibition held as part of the activities of the month of November in support of the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
During the event, Johnattan Báez deplored the high rate of crimes associated with gender violence and indicated that the Dominican society must assume the commitment to face this issue, joining together to address the problem from all possible angles.
“Let’s go to where the actions originate, the human mind, and specifically in this case, the mind of the aggressors. Starting from there, a deeper dialogue can be promoted, which encompasses all possible preconditions,” said the filmmaker.
Báez, founder of Cinergetik, indicated that the film is the result of the collaboration between a group of artists committed to promoting quality artistic work while embracing such an important social cause, whom he thanked for being a fundamental part of the project’s success.
Likewise, the filmmaker made a series of proposals in search of both the Dominican State and the private sector recognizing the value and potential of short films as audiovisual products and further promoting their production, distribution and exhibition.
On his side, Merkiseded Avelino, who shares credit as producer of Another Orange with Báez, thanked those present for the support given to the production, backing a project that seeks to contribute to the fight against gender violence.
The event counted with the presence of Judge Modesto Martínez, member of the Judicial Power Council; the Vice Minister of Attention to Violence of the Ministry of Women, Daris Sánchez; Katia Núñez from the General Directorate of Cinema, among other representatives of the Government, the private sector, the film industry and organizations that support women.
Cinergetik is a film & media company which aims at developing a self-sustaining system for the mass production of short films.
